Weekend Wrap-up April 30: Final NaPoWriMo Poem
--
If I had set the goal to write 30 poems this month, I would have been disappointed. But, since I decided not to put that pressure on myself, I have come out of NaPoWriMo unscathed.
The takeaway? Don’t set goals and you’ll never be disappointed. 😄
No, seriously, it was nice not to be regimented or bound by the prompts.
The End has Arrived
Undecided, that I was
To challenge my creative dream
Perhaps I should just let it flow
Like an intermittent mountain stream
It was a task to search for prompts
At times it was harrowing
Pages, sites, and social accounts
All at once competing
Day one arrives, and pen in hand
I read the topic as I sit
My brow furled and my lip curled
No, Sir. I do not like it
“Now what!” I exclaimed, am I to do
With pen and paper and hot coffee
I took a sip, top page I did flip
I wrote a poem about poetry
As each day passed I fell behind
Then I found my plan
No pressure or expectation now
Just a short work that fits on Instagram
After a lull — or dearth of spark
The words again began to flow
A ten verse epic spouted forth
Inspired by a little dog I know
Over for another year
No daily write or even thirteen
I’m not disappointed with the poems
That’s twelve more than there would have been
Where’s the dog poem?
